BRITTA WENZEL- SAVE BARNEGAT BAY

BRITTA IS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SAVE BARNEGAT BAY.  THE ORGANIZATION WAS STARTED 46 YEARS AGO AT A KITCHEN TABLE WITH PEOPLE FROM BAY HEAD, MANTOLOKING, AND BRICK FIGHTING TO MAINTAIN THE QUALITY OF BARNEGAT BAY WHICH IS THE LARGEST BODY OF WATER IN NJ.  IT RUNS FROM BAY HEAD TO THE END OF LONG BEACH ISLAND.  THE BAY AND ITS WILDLIFE CONTINUES TO BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY AIR POLLUTION WHICH ADDS NITROGEN, RUN OFF FROM STORM DRAINS AND OVERDEVELOPMENT WHICH DOESN'T LEAVE NATURAL SURFACES TO ABSORB RAINWATER.  THE ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN GETTING LAWS PASSED TO LIMIT POLLUTION  ESPECIALLY NITROGEN AND PHOSPHATE AND OVER DEVELOPMENT OF ESSENTIAL GREEN AREAS SUCH AS MARSHES.
